Fix These Before You Pay for Ads
Ads send people to you. These five basics decide what happens when they arrive.
Paid ads are a fast way to get in front of people who need what you do. They are also a fast way to spend money. The ad only gets someone to look. Whether they call, book or move on depends on what they find next, and most of that is in your control before you spend anything.
If you run a service business, here are five things worth fixing first.
1. Your Google Business Profile
For many local searches, your Google Business Profile is the first thing people see, before your website and sometimes instead of it. Check that your business name, phone number, hours, service area and categories are correct and match your website. Add real photos of your work and your team. Reply to reviews, good and bad, in a calm and human way. An incomplete or out-of-date profile makes a paid click harder to win back.
2. A website that works on a phone
Open your own site on your phone and try to do what a customer would do. Can you tell what you offer and where you work within a few seconds? Is the phone number one tap away? Does the page load quickly on a normal connection? If any answer is no, fix that before you send paid traffic to it.
3. One clear next step
Every page should make the next step obvious: call, book, request a quote. Pick the one that fits how you actually sell, and make it easy to find. A page with five competing buttons often gets fewer calls than a page with one.
4. Someone who answers
This one is not about marketing at all. If calls go to voicemail during business hours, or web inquiries wait days for a reply, more traffic only means more missed chances. Decide who answers, how fast, and what happens after hours. Then test it yourself.
5. A way to know what worked
Before you spend, decide how you will tell whether it paid off. That can be as simple as asking every new customer how they found you and writing it down, or using a dedicated phone number or form for ad traffic. Without some way to track it, you will be guessing about what to keep and what to cut.
Then turn the ads on
None of this is glamorous, and none of it requires a big budget. But it is the difference between ads that bring customers and ads that only bring clicks.
